Premature ejaculation affecting sexual life: prevention, health care, medicinal diet and behavioral therapy

2026-05-01

Premature ejaculation is the most common male sexual dysfunction. It is defined as ejaculation occurring before penetration during face-to-face intercourse, where the woman is supine with knees bent and the man is prone on top, or ejaculating after penetration without sufficient thrusting or prolonged thrusting.

Middle-aged men can use the following preventive and health care methods, which, if used properly or adhered to over a long period, can completely prevent premature ejaculation.

(1) Health care therapy for preventing premature ejaculation

◇Understand and approach sexual life correctly, recognize the meaning of premature ejaculation, and avoid misinterpreting normal situations as premature ejaculation. If premature ejaculation occurs occasionally, eliminate worries and anxiety. Even if you do have premature ejaculation, let go of the burden, build confidence, and actively seek treatment.

◇Whether one's emotions are normal or not before sexual intercourse has a significant impact on the speed of ejaculation. Excitement and tension often lead to premature ejaculation; in addition, excessively vigorous movements and high stimulation intensity during intercourse can also accelerate ejaculation.

◇Avoiding masturbation and moderating sexual activity are beneficial in preventing and treating premature ejaculation. Some have advocated having intercourse again a few hours after premature ejaculation to utilize the post-coital inhibition to delay ejaculation and treat premature ejaculation. However, this method is ultimately detrimental to health and is therefore not recommended for middle-aged men.

◇For intercourse, the ideal position is for the woman to lie on her back with her knees bent, and the man to lie face up. Ensure the penis is smoothly inserted into the vagina and then slightly withdrawn. Hold this position briefly before resuming thrusting. If the woman has insufficient vaginal lubrication, use a lubricant before intercourse to reduce excessive stimulation and premature ejaculation during penetration.

◇Strengthening physical exercise, improving physical fitness, participating in appropriate cultural and recreational activities, and maintaining a cheerful mood can help prevent and treat premature ejaculation.

◇ Quit drinking alcohol, eat less spicy and stimulating food, and eat more light foods such as lotus seeds, longan, and dried plums.

(2) Dietary therapy for treating premature ejaculation

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that some medicinal diets can also help middle-aged men treat premature ejaculation. Middle-aged men may wish to try the following medicinal diet recipes:

Take one pair of pig kidneys, remove the glands, stuff them with 10 grams each of walnut kernels, cornelian cherry, and eucommia bark, sew up the incision, and cook until done. Suitable for kidney deficiency and premature ejaculation.

◇500g mutton, 10g each of Curculigo orchioides, Rosa laevigata, and Morinda officinalis. Stew until cooked, discard the dregs, eat the meat and drink the soup. Suitable for premature ejaculation due to kidney deficiency.

◇Take one pair of sheep kidneys, and 15 grams each of wolfberry, eucommia bark, dodder seed, and morinda root. Stew until cooked, then eat the meat and drink the soup. Suitable for kidney deficiency and premature ejaculation.

◇ 250g venison, 15g each of wolfberry, he shou wu (Polygonum multiflorum), and longan pulp. Simmer over low heat until the meat is cooked. Eat the meat and drink the soup. Suitable for premature ejaculation due to yin deficiency.

Take one pigeon, clean it, remove the internal organs, and add 30 grams each of wolfberry and polygonatum. Simmer for 45 minutes, discard the dregs, eat the meat and drink the soup. Suitable for premature ejaculation due to deficiency.

Take two sparrows, remove feathers and internal organs, and add 25 grams each of dodder seed and wolfberry. Boil for 40 minutes, then discard the dregs, eat the meat and drink the soup. Suitable for premature ejaculation due to deficiency.

◇60g yam, 20g jujubes, 300g glutinous rice. Cook into porridge and eat once a day for 7 consecutive days. Suitable for premature ejaculation due to deficiency of both heart and spleen.

◇One pair of pork kidneys and 30 grams of walnuts. Stew until tender and eat. Suitable for kidney deficiency and premature ejaculation.

(3) Behavioral therapy for premature ejaculation

Treating premature ejaculation is a complex and challenging issue. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the storage of semen is closely related to the heart, liver, and kidneys. Therefore, Chinese herbal medicines with kidney-tonifying and semen-strengthening effects should be selected, combined with behavioral therapies that can raise the ejaculation threshold, which can achieve satisfactory results.

① Squeezing method

When the woman stimulates the penis to the point of urgency to ejaculate, immediately stop stimulation. Place your thumb on the frenulum of the penis, and your index and middle fingers on the back of the penis, positioned above and below the coronal sulcus. Squeeze firmly for 5 seconds, then suddenly release. The pressure applied is proportional to the degree of erection. Those with firm erections should squeeze harder, while those with weaker erections should use moderate pressure. Repeat this training to delay the urgency of ejaculation and re-establish an appropriate time for ejaculation. As the man's confidence increases, the woman can assume the superior position. Before penetration, the woman should perform the squeezing motion 3-6 times. After penetration, hold the penis still for a short time. Then, the woman should squat down, withdraw the penis, squeeze again, and then reinsert it, followed by slow rubbing. If the man feels he is about to ejaculate, the woman should sit down and repeat the squeezing motion. If the penis can remain inside the vagina for 4-5 minutes, the rubbing speed can be increased appropriately to induce ejaculation. This method can be repeated, and after several weeks, most patients can control ejaculation quite well. However, to consolidate the therapeutic effect, it should be continued for 3 to 6 months.

② Desensitization therapy plus squeezing technique

First, the patient should use their left palm to support the glans penis and rhythmically pat the glans penis and coronal sulcus with their right hand, 100 times a day, gradually increasing to 200 times after 2 days. One course of treatment lasts 15 days. Then, soak the glans penis and coronal sulcus in cool water once a day for 15 days as one course of treatment.

Third, soak the glans penis in 37°C hot water, increasing the temperature by 0.5°C daily until reaching 41°C. Do this once a day for 15 days as one course of treatment. Fourth, apply paraffin oil to the glans penis, then rub it from the glans to the coronal sulcus 100 times daily, increasing by 50 times each subsequent day. One course of treatment is 15 days. Sexual intercourse should be avoided while using the above treatments. Fifth, at the beginning of intercourse, thrust the penis 100 times inside the vagina, increasing by 50 times each subsequent intercourse, aiming to avoid ejaculation. To allow for stronger stimulation, when the penis is close to ejaculation after a certain number of thrusts inside the vagina, withdraw it and have the woman place her thumb on the frenulum of the penis, and her index and middle fingers on the dorsal side of the penis, just above and below the coronal sulcus, firmly squeezing and pressing for 3-4 seconds. Repeat this process to better help the man control ejaculation.

③ Intermittent stimulation method

The woman stimulates the penis until she is about to ejaculate, then stops stimulation. After the excitement subsides, she resumes stimulation, repeating this process until the man can tolerate a large amount of stimulation without ejaculating.

④ Pull the scrotum

When ejaculation is imminent during intercourse, the woman can pull on the scrotum and testicles towards the penis to reduce sexual arousal and delay ejaculation.
